Susan Blais Bio

Susan Blais Susan Blais grew up in New England, where she led an active outdoor life: hiking, biking, riding, skiing, and playing sports. She started her first job at age 14, riding her horse to a kennel where she helped train St. Bernard show dogs.

She learned discipline and focus at a young age, which helped her remain in great shape through her teens and young adult years. In her late twenties she entered the corporate world: first as an administrator, then a salesperson, and eventually holding senior management positions in a number of healthcare organizations.

While enjoying the challenge and success of the business world, Blais found that the long hours and frequent travel kept her from staying in top physical condition. As the stress and strain of leadership and corporate politics took their toll, she found herself gaining weight and feeling less strong and flexible than she had before.

To further complicate things, she entered pre-menopause at an early age, in her late thirties. The intensity of the physical and mental changes she experienced caused her to do extensive research in search of relief for the extreme symptoms. When she entered actual menopause at age 44, the symptoms did not improve but instead grew increasingly worse.

Her search for a cure led her to experiment with Matt Furey's Combat Conditioning Program. These bodyweight exercises surprised her with their efficiency and effectiveness, beginning almost immediately to increase her strength and flexibility and providing tremendous stress relief. With the coaching of Matt Furey and the guidance of her physician, she was able to effect an amazing turnaround in her health, fitness, confidence, and mental attitude.

In 2006, Blais took on the Furey Fitness Challenge and completed 100,000 Hindu Squats that year. When she found that only a handful of men much younger than herself had also completed the Challenge, she realized she had attained a level of fitness quite unusual for a woman her age.

The combination of mental and physical exercises Blais performed enabled her to create a new life for herself: physically, mentally and socially. She retired from the corporate world in 2006, and is now a happy and successful entrepreneur, coaching others into higher levels of physical and mental performance and business success.

Because she is in contact with so many women in their 50s and 60s, Blais developed the Fit and Fabulous for the Fifties and Beyond program to enable other women to disprove the popular but dubious notion that going through menopause means they must settle for feeling and looking less than their best.

Blais and her students continue to prove that going through menopause does not mean that women must settle for poor health, waning energy, and drab looks. All women can benefit from taking small daily steps to improve their health, energy levels, and their looks to make the 50s and beyond the most satisfying and productive time of their lives.
